Income & Financial Requirements (Temporary Residency)
You qualify for temporary residency by showing economic solvency through income or savings.
⚠️ Exact amounts vary by consulate. The following are calculated using the formula that all consulates should apply: 300 × the 2026 minimum wage, as published by the Mexican government , divided by 18 and converted using the current exchange rate. Amounts may change based on the daily peso–USD exchange rate.
Monthly Income Option
Approx. $5,250.00 USD per month. Must be proven with 6 months of consistent income
Savings / Investment Option
- Approx. $87,511.00 USD in savings or investments
- Must be maintained for 12 months.

How the Residency Process Works
Step 1: Apply at a Mexican Consulate
You must apply outside Mexico at a Mexican consulate.
Documents usually include:

If approved, the consulate places a single-entry residency visa in your passport.

This step is known as the canje process.
